Remembering a moment When you thought you’d let it shine Taking one step further As you’re falling far behind Couldn’t help but dancing on the ledge Sketching out a life you’d soon forget Lady of a nation Of a nation under god Broken of all senses Thrown away and left to rot Couldn’t help but dancing for a world gone mad Little lady liberty is dead Just when you thought you'd let it shine! Just when you thought you'd let it shine! Can you hear the voices from below? How they say 'Come on it's time to go?' Just when you thought you'd let it shine Before the echo breaks And it's you who can't believe Yeah it's you who can't be seen Just when you thought you'd let it shine…

I’m falling asleep at the wheel
Failing to see when the night is closing in
And somehow I feel everything around me is not what it seems I'm not a god fearing man
I am not even a good Samaritan
 I cheat when I can
I just take it easy, never take stand at all Taking a trip down a hole
Only to wake the strangest whereabouts I scream and I shout It’s all devoid of meaning...
words just trickle out of me... And this is for real
Fading away until I no longer feel
 So I strike a deal
I will be forever
Asleep at the wheel... Head for the place in the sun Head for the sun Head for the place and the million degrees you’ve become Didn’t even know what makes up a soul Didn’t even know what makes you believe it is over Didn’t even know a house from a hole And you awake The moment you take a chance on… Didn’t even know how I’m getting old Didn’t even know I still had to fold up the pieces Didn’t even know it’s all been foretold And you awake The moment you take a chance on me Didn’t I have somewhere to go Didn’t I do it for the show Didn’t I do it? Maybe so Thank you but I’d rather go now Didn´t even know I made it almost Didn´t even know I made it across through the ocean Didn´t even know I´m all but a ghost And you awake the moment you take a chance on… Didn´t even know there´s always a toll Didn´t even know you´re breaking your soul for a saviour Didn´t even know him but there he goes And you awake the moment you take a chance on… Me and you Me and you Me and you... Head for the place in the sun Head for the sun Head for the place and the million degrees you’ve become

Everybody wants to know Where everybody seems to go Read you like an open book Read you like it's understood So take your time and make it real Stop losing out on how you feel Contemplating what you did Bit by bit Welcome to the open road No one cares which way you go This is how you feel And how you say goodbye If what you say is true Your fears are here for you We're all here for you... Images of broken glass Distant smell of burning gas Hovering above it all The living, breathing seem so small Put your feet back down on earth Dying's just like giving birth All you ever wished or feared Is waiting here... So welcome to the open road No one cares which way you go This is how you feel And how you say goodbye If what you say is true Your fears are here for you We're all here for you

I've always been just going up No one has told me to stop it all Waiting on moments to pass by Never for one to last So it seems like I keep getting stuck Something just doesn't add up to me People I love they just pass by and moments are fleeting at best How did I get over here? Wasn't I already lonesome Wasn't I already down on myself? Over and out, wasting away? I've always been just going up I'm way beyond reaching the top My senses are bloated And floating away Scratching the surface of god This never has come as a shock I know I've been fucking it up again People I love I let always pass by Never for one to last So how did I get over here? Wasn't I already lonesome Wasn't I already down on myself? Over and out, wasting away? Head for the place in the sun Head for the sun Head for the place and the million degrees you’ve become

Ruby, Ruby, Ruby - are you here? Time is coming after for you It’s so very clear Are you, are you dreaming of a dream Weightless in a pantomime Suspended in between Almost here And almost gone The way you say “What have I been living on?“ Ruby, Ruby, Ruby let’s be clear There isn’t much for you to do now You’re crawling, crawling at the speed of light Anger will not take you down Not without a fight Almost here And almost gone It’s when you say “What have I been living on?“

Suddenly welcome Suddenly blue Suddenly someone inside of you Suddenly welcome Suddenly you Suddenly don‘t know what to do Out here Nowhere No one knows just who you are Seemingly alright You‘re down in a hole Suddenly waking Suddenly true Suddenly pacing in worn out shoes Suddenly eager And who are you? Suddenly someone inside of you Out here Nowhere No one knows just who you are Seemingly alright You‘re down in a hole Suddenly welcome…the hell are you! You‘re not welcome and you‘re not you! Suddenly welcome It may be true Say hi to the devil inside of you Out here Nowhere No one knows just who you are Seemingly alright You‘re down in a hole Say you‘re my little star Boy you‘re just who you are This is just what you can‘t see anymore Say you‘re my little star Oh what you say you are Ruby you’re not the only one

Ruby, Ruby, Ruby - are you here? I am coming after you after all these years… …all your graces Everything you fear I will break’em down for you... Almost here And almost gone It’s when you say ‚What have I been living on?‘ And then you go And you find it some other way This pavement of blood makes you justify it all There's plenty to see on the morning of judgement day Oh, can you catch? Can you catch me when I fall?

I am you motherfucker - it has begun I am you motherfucker - son of a gun Still the same motherfucker - I'm having fun And we will go to the place in the sun Yeah I'm you motherfucker – you better run I am you motherfucker – come on, come on... ...look at me motherfucker – it won't be long... And we will go to the place in the sun You are me You better remember We were fused together from the start I am you You better remember You and I cannot be told apart I am you motherfucker – we don't belong I'm a bad motherfucker – you're just a punching bag... for me motherfucker! And now we're gone, now we're gone, to the place in the sun You are me You better remember We were pieced together from the start I am you You better remember You and I cannot be told apart You were saying You're watching over everything So why all this commotion What is this all about? You were saying We are somewhere in between We won't find the ocean We are burning out You and me Ain’t it funny who we are? You and me We are burning out

Picture your life inside a photograph Looking pretty is all you have to do No more wonder what has gone and what’s in store for you After all this time it’s only you As your taking down your ego For what’s yet to come Take your time there is nobody here Take your time there is nobody here Take your time there is nobody here for you Take your time there is nobody here

Take down your soul And set it on fire You're gonna burn for the deeds you have done Wasting your days so uninspired Moving that mountain all on your own All of your life And all your time crashing down and going blind Nothing is sacred Naked as a baby boy This is who you are Help me Over here it's always afternoon Can you feel the summer breeze Let the sun come crashing down, down, down, down Ruby, there's an everlasting afternoon Just for you Ruby, but the sun doesn't seem to shine Show me your life in all of its glory No sugar coating or spinning it right Taking a break from feeling so sorry Wasting away somewhere out of sight No more lies And no more time Still you seek But you can’t find An army of fingers Pointing at a baby boy This is who you are Help me Over here it's always afternoon Can you feel the summer breeze? Let the sun come crashing down, down, down, down Ruby, there's an everlasting afternoon Just for you Ruby, but the sun doesn't seem to shine

Out here in this desert he's been overcome With all his troubles on vacation - gone Is this what god considers free of sin When no more thoughts are coming in? Still there's a voice Discreetly mocking him And there's fading shadows Just out of sight Picking up the sand he begins to smile - for a while Before he lets it slip right through his hands Nothing out here's ever truly set in stone Not even bones Nor love nor fear Will stand the test of time What is a mind With nothing left to do? And what is god When no one ever thinks of him? What is a mind With nothing left to do? And what is god When no one thinks of him?

Ruby watch the ocean flow How it breaks and how it goes Is this a little bit like your soul? Ruby does it hurt to know All your life was just a show? Now it's time for your final bow And was it always the best of times? And was it always hanging by the rhythm of your heart? And you are here with me Down by the ocean in a dream You will never ever leave Ruby is it vertigo Why you always sink so low? Or were you drowning your demons there? And for now you are here for the rest of your life You're running around for sure And was it always the best of times? And was it always hanging by the rhythm of your heart? And you are here with me Down by the ocean in a dream You will never ever leave Ruby are you on the go Or standing still Please let me know We're still waiting on your return Take a load off yourself And believe in today And the ocean will crash and burn Ruby are you turning blue? Ruby is it you? Ruby are you turning blue? Ruby is it you?

So you ride on a boat through the ocean And steer through the echoes of hope The king of all navigation The lord of all slippery slopes So tell me where are we with you and your army? Lost in an endless sea Just the way you are It’s just the way you are So you sail away into the morning You navigate always so well But you never heeded the warning That you’re already in hell So tell me where are we with you and your army? We miss you endlessly So tell me where are we with you and your army? …on the wrong side of a dream Just the way you are It’s just the way you are

Rage and sensitivity down on low Phase number one to rock your boat Spinning all around in the atmosphere Listen to me brother I am still right here Sitting all alone on top of the world All I want to do is to sink my feet in the dirt Everything considered it was a pretty good year So won't you listen to me 'Cause I'm still right here for you and all your worries Taking over, taking over Sending all the dirt in my head back to god The dirt in my head will never be forgotten You might want me to slowly disappear Listen motherfucker I am still right here Listen motherfucker I am still right here 'Cause I'm still right here for you and all your worries Taking over, taking over Sending all the dirt in my head back to god Sending all the dirt in my head back to god You might want me to slowly disappear Listen motherfucker I am still right here

Give yourself a break It will be okay Take a holiday, feel better And the rain will go away Don’t you know, don’t you know There has always been a way Nothing seems to matter So you better seize the day And when I heard you on the radio You were talking of salvation and a better way to go Days gone to waste in a haze of solitude Talking much of nothing As you preach away the mood Go get the slow one Always get the slow one Pull on them a fast one 'Cause you know it’s all for nothing Go get the slow one Go get the slow one, baby Go get the slow one Better go get someone We all want a saviour But I’m not the one No I’m not the one that you need We all need a saviour But I’m not the one No I’m not the one that you need And when you ride into the afterglow Don’t throw a look behind you Off away you go Days gone to waste in a haze of solitude Get them over quickly Or they’re coming over you Go get the slow one Go get the slow one, baby Go get the slow one Better go for someone We all want a saviour But I’m not the one No I’m not the one that you need We all need a saviour But I’m not the one No I’m not the one that you need

Outknowing your trouble Outliving your life Outstaying your welcome from 9 to 5 It‘s all very subtle But it‘s eating you up inside And money is everything It’s eating us alive Yeah money it is Jesus and the road to heaven it is real estate completely made of gold Take a look at all your life has been I bet you‘re always Looking after all your little dreams They watch you in your sleep Do you know it‘s all just been between A place in the machine and what is left to go around Outknowing your trouble Outliving your life Take a look at all your could-have-beens A million doorways Doesn‘t matter who you once have been Or who you thought you‘d be Do you know they‘ve always held the key To you and the machine And no one goes to show you out Outknowing your trouble Outliving your life Outstaying your welcome from 9 to 5 It‘s all very subtle But it‘s eating you up inside And money is everything Eating us alive…yeah money is Jesus and the road to heaven it is real estate completely made of gold

about

"The Death and Life of Ruby Marquette" is at its heart a studio album where a loose narrative of redemption and bliss is carried by an army of guitars and synthesizers. Phraseland wanted to create a reflection of the world in its own music and try chose new creative directions along the way.

This album also marks end of songs sung in English as we chose to use the covid pandemic as a means to refocus our musical output. This is why from now on we will compose and perform our songs in German.

In the end this album became a reflection on the duality of things, and ultimately a reminder that we need to let things go in order to move on.
